Introduction
Sweather ("we", "our", "the app") is a sport-specific weather scoring app built by Rob Mulder, based in the Netherlands. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Data We Collect
Location data. When you grant permission, Sweather accesses your device's GPS location to fetch weather forecasts for your current position. This location data is sent directly to weather API providers (see below) and is never stored on our servers.
Saved locations. Locations you save (city name, coordinates, emoji) are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. They are not transmitted to any server.
App preferences. Settings like your preferred sports, wind speed unit, personality level, and weather provider are stored locally on your device.
No accounts. Sweather does not require user registration. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any personal identifiers.
Third-Party Weather Services
To provide weather scores, Sweather sends your coordinates (latitude/longitude) to the following services:
- Open-Meteo, an open-source weather API. Privacy policy
- Apple WeatherKit, Apple's weather framework. Subject to Apple's privacy policy
- Buienradar, KNMI radar data for the Netherlands and Belgium
- Bright Sky, DWD radar data for Germany. More info
We only transmit the minimum data required (coordinates) to fetch forecasts. No personal information is shared with these services.
Data Storage
All app data is stored locally on your device. Sweather does not operate any backend servers or cloud databases. We have no ability to access, read, or recover your data.
Analytics
This website (getsweather.com). We use PostHog, hosted in the European Union, for privacy-friendly, cookieless product analytics so we can see how the site is used and improve it. We do not set analytics cookies or store a persistent identifier in your browser, and we do not record your screen. We collect usage events (such as page views and clicks), your approximate location and IP address, and basic device and browser information. We do not ask you to create an account, and we never sell your data. PostHog processes this data on our behalf as a data processor in the European Union.
The Sweather apps. The iOS and Android apps use the same privacy-friendly analytics (PostHog, EU) together with crash reporting (Sentry) to understand which features are used and to fix bugs. This is limited to non-identifying technical data — for example app version, device model, operating system version, approximate location (derived from your IP address), and in-app settings such as your measurement units or how many sports you've favourited. We do not collect your name, email, or the locations you save, and analytics are disabled in App Store screenshot mode. No advertising frameworks are used.
Push Notifications
Sweather can send optional push notifications (for example app news and release updates). Notifications are strictly opt-in: nothing is sent unless you grant iOS notification permission.
- What we store: When you enable notifications, the app registers a push profile on our server: a pseudonymous device identifier, a Firebase Cloud Messaging token, and coarse app context — app version, language setting, the country of your primary saved location (if any), your favourite sport identifiers, subscription status, and which notification categories you enabled.
- Why: So we can target notifications sensibly (for example, only to users who follow a given sport or live in an affected country) instead of blasting everyone.
- What we don't store: No name, no email, no GPS coordinates, no saved location names. The profile is linked to a device identifier, not to your identity.
- Delivery: Notifications are delivered via Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple's push service. The message content passes through those services.
- Opt-out & deletion: Turn off notification categories in Sweather's settings or revoke the permission in iOS Settings — either action deletes your push profile from our server. It is also removed by the in-app "delete my data" option.
Children's Privacy
Sweather does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app does not require personal information from any user.
Your Rights
Under the GDPR and other applicable privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Revoke location access at any time via iOS Settings
- Delete all saved locations within the app
- Delete the app to remove all locally stored data
- Request information about data processing by contacting us

Strava Integration
Sweather offers an optional integration with Strava to personalize your weather scores based on your activity history. When you connect Strava:
- Data accessed: Your athlete profile and activity history (type, time, location, performance metrics) from the last 365 days.
- How we use it: We detect your sports preferences, typical activity times, and favorite locations. We also correlate weather conditions with your performance to suggest personalized scoring ranges.
- Weather data: Historical weather is fetched from Open-Meteo (not Strava). Only derived statistical summaries (e.g., "best performance temperature range") are stored, not raw Strava activity data.
- No cross-user sharing: Your data is never shared with other users or used to train AI models.
- Disconnect: You can disconnect Strava at any time in Settings. All Strava-related data (tokens, calibration profiles) is immediately deleted from your device and our server.
- Server-side: Our server receives webhook notifications from Strava when you record new activities. We store only event metadata (activity ID, timestamp), not activity content. This data is deleted when you disconnect.
- Auto-Share (premium): If you enable Auto-Share, our server temporarily stores your Strava access token to fetch activity details and update titles/descriptions on your behalf. Activity data (sport, distance, duration, location) and weather conditions are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to generate personalized titles and descriptions. These generated texts are stored on our server until you dismiss them or disconnect. You can revert any changes made to your Strava activities at any time.
- Push notifications: If you enable Auto-Share, we store a Firebase Cloud Messaging token to send you notifications when new suggestions are ready. This token is deleted when you disconnect or disable notifications.
For more information about how Strava handles your data, see Strava's Privacy Policy.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
